Robert P. Bennett, M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree
from The Ohio State University where he was a member of Phi
Beta Kappa. He received his M.D. degree from The Ohio State
University College of Medicine in 1975 and he served his internship
in internal medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Dr. Robert Bennett served his Ophthalmic Surgery Residency at
The Ohio State University from 1976 to 1979.
Dr. Robert Bennett practiced general ophthalmology in Chillicothe,
Ohio following completion of his residency, and he has been
in private practice with the Arena Eye Surgeons, Inc. from 1985
until the present time. He was board certified in 1980 and he
is a fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is
a member of The American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery, The American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Columbus
Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Society. He is a Clinical Assistant
Professor at The Ohio State University.
Dr. Robert Bennett's primary interests are in cataract surgery
and general ophthalmology. He is a caring and compassionate
physician who strives to provide the best of care for his patients.

John Burns, M.D. |
Dr. John A. Burns is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan
University and Ohio State University College of Medicine. He
completed his internship at Grant Medical Center and a three-year
residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State University. After completing
his residency, he served a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic
and reconstructive surgery at the Manhattan Eye & Ear Hospital
in New York City. He is board certified in ophthalmology, a
fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and has been elected
to membership in the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic
and Reconstructive Surgery (he was president of the organization
in 1992). Dr. Burns has practiced his subspecialty of ophthalmic
plastic surgery in Columbus, Ohio since 1968. He is an active
teacher in the Department of Ophthalmology at Ohio State University
and holds the faculty rank of Clinical Professor. He has also
written numerous medical papers on lid and lacrimal topics,
as well as a number of chapters for ophthalmic textbooks. In
addition to his teaching credentials, he has served four terms
as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Grant Medical
Center, as well as being a past president of the Grant Medical
Staff.

Alice T. Epitropoulos is a board certified ophthalmologist

results. In addition to operating a private practice, Dr. Epitropoulos
serves as a clinical assistant professor at Ohio State University.
Currently, Dr. Epitropoulos is conducting research on reducing
astigmatism using a new device called the Terry Astigmatome
She is the first in the country to use this device to reduce
astigmatism at the slit lamp in the office.
She has been actively involved in organized medicine, currently
serving on the legislative task force committee to the Ohio
State Medical Association. In addition, she is secretary treasurer

David M. Lehmann, MD is active in the academic, medical, athletic,
and general communities. After graduating magna cum laude from
Yale University in 1977, Dr. Lehmann went on to earn his medical
degree from Ohio State University in 1985. He then completed an
internship in Flexible Medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital
before undertaking a residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State
University College of Medicine. He then completed a Glaucoma Fellowship
through the Eye Consultants of Atlanta, P.C., Department of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lehmann is a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners
and is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lehmann has been involved in numerous research activities
and has been repeatedly recognized for his work. In 1985, he received
the Eli G. Alcorn Prize in Ophthalmology from Ohio State University
College of Medicine. He also won a First Place Research Award
at the school's Seventh Annual Resident Alumni Research Symposium.
He also received clinical rotations and coursework honors in biochemistry
and ophthalmology research during medical school. In addition,
Dr. Lehmann earned letters of commendation in cardiology, hematology,
gastroenterology, family medicine, infectious diseases, and ophthalmology.
Involved throughout the medical and ophthalmic communities, Dr.

Dr. Karl Pappa, graduated from The Ohio State University College
of Pharmacy Summa Cum Laude in 1979. He received his medical
degree, Cum Laude from The Ohio State University in 1987. He
completed an Ophthalmic Surgery Residency at The Ohio State
University and served as Chief Resident from 1990 to 1991. He
received fellowship training in glaucoma and anterior segment
surgery at the Havener Eye Institute at The Ohio State University
from 1991 to 1992.
Since joining the Arena Eye Surgeons in 1992, he has specialized
in Glaucoma and Cataract surgery with a special interest in
Refractive Surgery. Dr. Karl Pappa is an Assistant Clinical
Professor of Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University. He
enjoys teaching and has lectured extensively in the fields of
glaucoma, anterior segment and ocular pharmacology both locally
and statewide. He has published articles reflecting his special
interest in pharmacologic agents that alter wound healing after
eye surgery. This includes a chapter on Corticosteroid Drugs
in an Ocular Pharmacology textbook.
Dr. Karl Pappa has performed Corneal Refractive surgery since
1993, mostly for his cataract and glaucoma patients with high
astigmatism. His busy glaucoma practice has provided him with
a very extensive background in Ophthalmic Laser Surgery. He
performs over 600 glaucoma laser surgical procedures annually.
This strong laser experience has allowed him to make a very
smooth transition into Laser Vision Correction and expand his
Refractive Surgery practice. Dr. Pappa has performed Laser Vision
Correction since 1996 when the Summit Technology Excimer Laser
was first made available at the Grant Laser Center. Since 1997,
he has been using the VISX Excimer Laser to treat nearsightedness,
astigmatism, and farsightedness. He has been performing the
LASIK procedure since 1998. His hard work, intense training
and dedication to this expanded area of his practice has greatly
benefited his refractive surgery patients, and provided them
with excellent surgical outcomes.
He and his wife Michelle have 3 children. He enjoys attending
their athletic and school events. Dr. Pappa is an avid runner
and has competed in various 10-K and half-marathon races. He
also enjoys coaching soccer and baseball, playing golf, bicycling,
and traveling.

Dr. John Stechschulte graduated from the University of Notre
Dame in 1977, received his medical degree from The Ohio State
University in 1980 and completed an Ophthalmic Surgery Residency
at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. There he served as Chief
Resident from 1983 to 1984. He received fellowship training
in corneal and anterior segment surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye
Institute/University of Miami, where he served as an Assistant
Professor in 1984 and 1985.
Dr. John Stechschulte is active on numerous committees, professional
boards and educational task forces. Since joining the Arena
Eye Surgeons in 1985, he has been Director of Corneal Surgery.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and
was elected to its national council. Dr. Stechschulte is past
president of the Ohio Ophthalmological Society, a board member
of the Medical Group of Ohio and a member of the International
Society of Refractive Surgeons. He is past chairman of Ophthalmology
for Grant Medical Center. Dr. Stechschulte is an Assistant Clinical
Professor of Ophthalmology at The Ohio State University. He
is a Board Member of the Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank.
He has lectured in the fields of refractive and corneal transplant
surgery at Grant Medical Center, OSU Hospitals and various statewide
meetings.
Dr. John Stechschulte was part of the original FDA investigator
group for excimer refractive surgery from 1992 to 1995. In 1995,
he led the Grant Laser Center Summit Technology Excimer program.
From 1997 to present, he has been using the VISX excimer laser
to treat nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness by
LASIK. He has received the 1999 VISX Star surgeon
award, as one of the countrys top LASIK surgeons. He
frequently participates in training other surgeons in these
procedures. Dr. Stechschulte performs laser vision correction
on hundreds of patients each year.
He and his wife, Jodi, have 5 children. He enjoys attending
their athletic and school events, as well as attending theater,
traveling and playing tennis and golf. He also volunteers for
the Physicians Free Clinic and Joint Organization for
Inner City Needs.

Dr. Peter Utrata, received his M.D. degree from The Ohio State
University in 1968. He did his rotating internship at San Joaquin
General Hospital in Stockton, California and this was followed
by an Ophthalmic Surgery Residency at the Ohio State University.
He served two years in the military at Fort Leonard Wood Army
Hospital and served as Chief of Ophthalmology there.
Dr. Peter Utrata has been in private practice from 1974 to
the present time at Arena Eye Surgeons, Inc. He is on the attending
staff at Grant Hospital and is also a Clinical Associate Professor
at The Ohio State University. He is a fellow of the American
Academy of Ophthalmology and is Board Certified. Dr. Utrata
has been a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery since 1983. He is also a member of the Columbus Eye,
Ear, Nose and Throat Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology
and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Peter Utrata has performed Corneal Refractive Surgeries
for the past 20 years. He was the first surgeon in the area
to implement the Corneal Optical Wedge Resection in 1979. He
has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally,
especially in regard to Implant Surgery. He also has lectured
on Astigmatic Keratotomy. He was among the first to implant
lenses along with cataract surgery in 1975 and was the first
surgeon in Ohio to implant the foldable intraocular lens. Dr.
Utrata was the first Ohio surgeon to implant the Staar Surgical
Implantable Contact Lens. Dr. Utrata has been performing laser
refractive surgery since 1996, including the LASIK procedure
since mid-1998.
Dr. Utrata is involved in charity work and was past Chairman
of Project Hope. He is married and has two grown children. He
enjoys boating, woodworking and travel.
